Lake Erie walleye on spinnerbaits

A great picture of 2 of my favorite customers, Derek and Jeff with 5 very tasty walleye. Each year I do more and more walleye charters on Lake Erie not far from Buffalo NY. The population has gotten so prosperous that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has increased the creel limit from 5 walleye a day to 6, which started in the Fall of 2012. One of my favorite ways to fish for late spring and early summer walleye, is with 3/8 to 1/4 ounce spinnerbaits with willow leaf blades. They are the same spinnerbaits I use to fish for large mouth and small mouth bass, fished the same way and on the same rod and reel combos. Best colors are chartreuse and white, fished over shallow water weed beds. Even though weed beds in 8 to 15 feet, are hard to find on the American side of Lake Erie, the search for them is worth it as they are usually loaded with big post spawn “walters”. Try it sometime….
